Wash Safe's "Cedar Seal" and "Deck Seal" products, what does "water based" or "water borne"mean?

Water based means we use water to carry the protective ingredients in the sealers. This means that anywhere water can penetrate into the wood, so does our sealer. Using water also means we are not using harmful chemicals. Our Cedar Seal and Deck Seal are completely safe for the environment. Also, Cedar Seal and Deck Seal are much more concentrated than others on the market, therefore you will get a much longer lasting finish for your money. Basically our water based sealers are easier to use, they are safer to use and keep your wooden decks and cedar roofs and fences looking cleaner and newer for years.

Yet another question about roof cleaning...bleach???

Algae, moss and fungus are among the oldest (not oldest profession) and most primitive life forms on earth. Ridding your home of them is difficult because they can exist on material considered far too difficult for most other living things. Chlorine and bleach based cleaners are poor choices at best for treating mosses, algae and mildew fungus. Chlorine, while excellent for non porous surfaces like counter tops, toilets, shower glass etc has liitle if any ability to actually penetrate the subsurface of porous surfaces. Thus it does not effectively penetrate the cell walls of these organisms, so its cleaning effect is on moss and algae is superficial, making its effectiveness only temporary. Re growth of the moss or algae is only weeks or months away. Roof cleaning products containing Sodium Hydroxide (bleach) or Trisodium Phosphate (TSP), although quite effective in cleaning roofs, are the principal ingredient in most toxic cleaners like oven, or drain cleaners ( and I am sure you have breathed them...yech). These chemicals are very corrosive and may damage gutters, siding, flashing, and painted surfaces, to name a few. Also most shrubbery, plants and other types of decorative vegetation will not tolerate even the smallest dose of these toxic brews. The use of Sodium Hydroxide should be left to the professionals who have the proper training, equipment and expertise to minimize health risks and property and environmental damage (see the blog on the fish kill). Wash Safe products are an infinitely safer and more effective method for cleaning moss, algae and mildew. Our oxygen based product has the ability to penetrate the cell walls of these organisms, prohibit the absorption of the necessary water borne nutrients thus distroying the plant in a matter of hours. Best of all our products are safe for plants, pets and people. If you have a choice, and give a damn, the choice should be easy... it's all up to us

TESTIMONIAL FROM AUSTRALIA "Way to go #3"

I have designated this lady for the "Way to Go" award... We recieved an order for Rust Off from Nina of Quinn's Rock, Western Australia. By the time I paid for the shipping, the cost was twice what I  charges. Her reponse to that was "Please bill me for shipping. I don't want you to be out of pocket" Honesty like that is why she gets the 3rd "Way to Go Award"! Thanks Nina! Here is her response: "Thank you for shipping it. It is excellent for getting rust off clothes."

Why have my roof cleaned if selling my house?

The first thing a person sees of your home is the roof....the "curb appeal" in realtor's language. A dirty or contaminated roof diminishes the value of your home. Nearly 50% of the initial impression a buyer makes is determined by the appearance of your roof. Even a well cared for property with a well manucured landscaping, can't overcome this initial negative impression.
A roof with moss, algae or mildew immediately raises doubts about the integrity and overall maintenance of the property, and raises concerns about the life left in the roof.
Roof cleaning before listing is a fast and affordable way of adding thousands of dollars to the value. The results are visually dramatic and is one of the least expensive ways to enhance the the "saleability" of your home.

Tile Roof Cleaning

Just a quick Blog about tile roof cleaning. If the tiles are glazed our "Tile Wash" will do a great job, but if the tiles are not glazed, the cleaner is in for a long tough job. These tiles are so porous that cleaning properly is a huge job.
We do however, offer a "Rotary Nozzle" for your pressure washer on our website www.wash-safe-canada.com that shots the water out in a whirlpool motion, that is really effective on glazed tiler roofs (or difficult to clean concrete), and will help the job on unglazed tiles to soem degree.

Toxic chemicals used in cleaning

Using cleaning chemicals means that we are often in contact with substances that are toxic to humans, animals and the environment, and these chemicals don't go away. When a surface is cleaned, some chemical deposit is generally left behind, and if it is toxic, exposing people to continued toxic residue.

Thats the beauty of Hydrogen Peroxide...first of all it rapidly reduces to H2O with exposure to air and secondly it is so common in everyday use that one can pretty well consider it a friend rather than a foe. Sooo the good news for our customers and camp followers is that Wash Safe products, based with Hydrogen peroxide, are absolutely safe, (except as a vodka substitute for martinis).
Check out our website for uses for Hydrogen Peroxide, including cleaning teeth www.wash-safe-canada.com

Coffee Pot cleaning

Ok here's something different. Our carafe for our automatic coffee pot has a stainless steel interior, much like a thermos. After about 5 years of daily use the inside was completely stained a dark brown-black and even putting it through the dishwasher did no good.
On a whim, I put one tablespoon of "Stain and Odor Evaporator", (our Pet and Household stain remover) in the pot, filled it with warm water and left it as we went out for dinner. When we got back several hours later I poured out the solution, rinsed in fresh water and the interior of the pot was brilliantly clean and as shiny as new!!! Just another use for Wash Safe products!!!

Wooden Deck Cleaning

I just had a question asked about how much of our Deck Wash would be needed to clean an average 15x15 ft deck. I answered the question on our website www.wash-safe-canada.com in the FAQ section, but I want to remind people who are contemplating cleaning decks not to forget the railings. Believe it or not each lineal foot of railing has 4 sq ft of surface to be cleaned which can really throw off your calculatuons if not included.

cleaning pet kennels, crates or carriers

A pet kennel, crate or carrier needs to be kept clean and safe from bacteria and germs. Pets can contract such ailments as salmonella poisoning, distemper or kennel cough from exposure to germs left behind from other pets or from the neglect of proper cleaning.
Furthermore, all pet owners understand how quickly irritating and embarrassing pet odors can develop, particularily indoors.
The trick to removing odors and rendering a kennel safe form infection, is to understand the genesis . Odors occur whenever bacteria are present and allowed to grow. Stains and odors are simply composed of different molecules. If you break them apart into their components you change the molecular composition and it will not longer be an odor or stain. As soon as Stable and Kennel Wash is added to water it begins to release millions of oxygen bubbles. These non toxic oxygen bubbles "blast" apart the stain and odor molecules effectively removing the problem. Kennels and their mats and blankets, while comforting for the pet, are natural breeding grounds for odor-causing germs and bacteria, and as such, must be regularily and thoroughly cleaned.
Using bleach and other strong cleaning chemicals, while convenient, may cause harm to your pet through contact or ingestion.
The answer is simple. Using Eco safe, bio friendly cleaning agents such as our Wash Safe's "Stable and Kennel Wash", the pet owner provides the required cleansing and deoderizing without any possible harm to their pet, and, incidentally, without any harm to the grass or flowerbeds during the rinsing.
What an easy way to provide peace of mind to the owner that he or she has done everything possible to provide a clean, sweet smelling, safe environment for her pet.

Stinky Hockey Gear and a Green Cleaning solution

I have this picture of Ronda, my neighbour up in Courtenay, moving her husband Gary and their two son's hockey gear out into the breezeway using a hockey stick...a LONG hockey stick...even the cat took off!!!
We (Wash Safe Canada) are close to launching a Super Detergent for hockey gear that will remove the dreadful bacteria that causes not only the awful smell, but also reduces the high risk of staph infection. (google the number of players in the NHL that have missed playing time due to such infections).
It will be an "ultra high-test" laundry powder with an oxygen bleach booster added to brighten whites and improve the cleaning of colored items. It is effective not only for hockey gear, but rugby strip, jogging gear, lacrosse, baseball, football, etc., even for hard to clean jobs like the smoke filled firefighters uniforms. It is ideal for any heavy duty cleaning problems or a house full of kids (sorta the same thing!!) ... anywhere the use of toxic cleaners is unacceptable.
Anyway stay tuned as we work out the marketing strategies, packaging etc. It will be available through our website http://www.wash-safe-canada.com/ and hopefully your local sporting goods stores later this spring.

Eco safe cedar sealer-new product!!!

Wash Safe Industries and Wash Safe Canada are excited to announce that we have completed the formulation and testing stages of our new water seal, specifically designed for cedar. "Cedar Seal" will be available for purchase from this website by March 2011. We have spent two years working on this and we are looking forward to getting it into the hands of our retailers, homeowners and contractors, as we are continually asked what to use to seal the wood after cleaning with our Cedar Wash. Technically you will not have to clean your cedar again for up to 5 years depending on the climate. You will only have to thoroughly clean once then seal and about every 5 years or so just put another coat of our sealer on the cedar and you will always have beautiful, natural, clean looking cedar. For roofs, decks, fences or siding, Cedar Seal will protect against mold, mildew, sun damage and any other deterioration as a result of weathering. Cedar Seal simply waterproofs the wood preventing any water from entering the wood so no organic grwth can start. Its that good! Now to design a label...
